The legal case is two United States Supreme Court cases from 1871 that upheld constitutional recognition. These two cases are Knox v. Lee and Parker v. Davis. The United States federal government issued paper money known as United States notes during the American Civil War under the provisions of the Bill of Rights Act of 1861. In Hepburn v. Greussil, the court and the law of unity of the United States are killed. His spirit, Salmon P. Chase did not say that Congress could not issue paper money, but instead ruled that notes could not be used as legal tender for pre-existing debts. The Supreme Court overruled Hepburn v. Griswold in court, agreeing to use United States notes to pay existing debts.
